If you enjoy beautiful gardens, don’t miss this one if you are visiting Funchal at Madeira. Monte Palace Tropical Garden is easy to go to, just take the cable car from the old town up to the Monte and the entrance to the garden is just next door.

I heard there is a white peacock in the garden as well, but unfortunately this time our paths did not cross, but that’s another great to reason to re-visit the gardens next time I’m at Madeira!
Practical tips for the visit: wear comfortable shoes (garden is 70.000 square meters in size), bring a sweater or a jacket with you even if it’s warm down at seaside, it can get chilly under the giant ferns. Don’t get scared of the height difference going down, since in case you feel tired after spending a lot of time in the park roaming the pathways or want to save your energy to the rest of the day, you can take a ride back to the entrance gate on a golf cart from the central lake (there is a small extra charge for the ride). Or just take the ride as a fun extra experience!
BONUS PICTURE! I couldn’t resist myself, I just had to post the below pic here, since this granddad deserves the best grandfather of the day award! How cute is the golden, sparkly, bunny backpack on him, carrying it heroicly for the little girl. Made us smile, hopefully you too! ❤
